This is the picture of Erik that I took with his camera with the Pacific Ocean in the background. The specific location was within a few meters of the wreck of the sailing ship, Peter Iredale at Fort Stevens USA. Three or four kilometers up the coast, in the background is Clatsop Spit, the south Jetty and the mouth of the Columbia River. We picked Erik up in the town of St Helens Oregon (but only after passing him by jumping up and down like a wild man in Scapoose OR (we we getting ready for lunch and thought we wouldn’t want to hold him up). Little did we know but a few kilometers west, there he was……..again. This time I told my wife we should pick him up as he reminded me of our son Kurt who used to do some long distance biking (and would have been acting the same way).. He wanted to get to the ocean to dip his tire before heading east. The time we spent getting to the coast was filled with interesting conversation and I found our view of the world not much different. While we offered to have him share out camp site for the night, he was anxious to get moving east again. So, with that, I gave him a bottle of ale (also in the camping picture) and off he went!
